HEN_psychopy_experiment.ZIP: contains the files to run the experiment, including the stimuli. HEN_rawdata_eye-tracking.ZIP: contains raw eye-tracking data files for each subject in .IDF format (generated by SMI BeGaze) HEN_rawdata_psychopy.RAR: contains log/key press, order of stimulus display and reading time recordings of the eye-tracking experiment for each subject (generated by PsychoPy) HEN_preprocessing_scripts.ZIP: Preprocessed data and R scripts to analyze the data. Note that we removed sensitive data from the qualtricsdata_raw.csv file. HEN_results.ZIP: contains model summaries METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION 1. Descriptions of methods used for collection of data: An eye-tracker (SMI IView X™ Hi-Speed eye-tracker with a sampling rate of 1250 Hz) was used to record eye movements. The sentence pairs were presented using the PsychoPy software (Peirce et al., 2019). The font used was Courier New, 30 pt and the screen was approximately 70 cm from the participants’ eyes. The questionnaire data was collected through Qualtrics immediately after the experiment was completed. For more information, see OSF page. 2. Methods for processing the data: The eye movement measures (fixation time, dwell time, refixation time) were extracted with the BeGaze software (SensoMotoric Instruments, 2014). For more information, see OSF page. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: BeGaze (SensoMotoric Instruments, 2014). Requires software license. Psychopy (Peirce et al., 2019) https://www.psychopy.org/ Rstudio used with R (R Core Team, 2017): https://rstudio.com/products/rstudio/ 4. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: Before and halfway through each experiment there was a calibration procedure to estimate the visual degree of error. If the average deviation of the gaze position exceeded 0.5°, the calibration was redone (as recommended by Holmqvist et al., 2011). Calibration was successful for all participants (average calibration accuracy = 0.41°, SD = 0.08). 5. Environmental/experimental conditions: For more information, see OSF page. 6. Quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: For more information, see OSF page. 7.
